We can’t forget Syria!

International aid must reach north-western Syria as soon as possible. In Syria, the earthquake came on top of existing emergencies. Years of war, a dire economic situation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently, an outbreak of cholera had already plunged the region into a humanitarian crisis and pushed medical facilities to the brink!

According to the UN, over 80,000 search and rescue personnel are in Turkey. Due to sanctions and international isolation, Syria has only a small fraction of that with just 5% of earthquake-affected sites being covered. We believe politics should not hinder humanitarian assistance and this is why we plan to send the first medical and disaster relief aid from North America to Syria. The US government has lifted sanctions on humanitarian aid for 180 days giving us a window to help those who most need it now.

We have received lists of items most needed from doctors treating the wounded in the disaster area and are working to secure as many of them as possible. Our goal is to send the relief container before the end of the month. This gives us enough time to collect as much life-saving medical aid as possible while being able to deliver in time to make a difference. Please donate, share, or contact us to coordinate on where you can send supplies the medical workers desperately need. Let’s come together to show the Syrian people we have not forgotten them.

Project Partners: 28. Jun is an international humanitarian organization in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations. Founded in 2012, to date we have delivered 250 tons of humanitarian, medical, financial and disaster relief aid worth $12.8 million to the Western Balkans and other parts of the world. Founded in 2021, as a subdivision of the Ascend Agency, ‘Ascend Gives Back’ is a Los Angeles-based philanthropic program that offers support to non-profit organizations, in causes ranging from wildlife conservation to suicide prevention.

From Kozara to Kosovo Polje, we had a record-setting Christmas Project this Year!

Our members were stretched to their very maximum to make this Holiday season our biggest yet. Hundreds of volunteers all over the world, dozens of partners, including the Rotary Club, and thousands of donors joined forces to bring the joy of Christmas to so many underprivileged children this year.

We donated thousands of Christmas gifts to children in Belgrade, Niš, Pirot, Vranje, Kraljevo, Kragujevac, Novi Pazar, Sombor, Despotovac, Feketic and Backi Sokolac in northern, central and southern Serbia. In Bosnia we delivered to Banja Luka, Kljuc, Grahovo, Livno, Istocno Sarajevo, Pale, Janja, and Doboj. In Kosovo and Metohija we delivered to Štrpce, Ugljare, Kuzmin and Priluzije. In Krajina we made deliveries to Benkovac, Smiljčić and Vrlika.

Our deepest thanks to everyone who supported us this year and we look forward to breaking the record again next Holiday season!

Phase Three in Building of Jasenovac Memorial

We have entered phase three – building the roof – on the Church of the Jasenovac Holy Martyrs in Medjuvodje. A portion of funds needed to proceed is still missing, so we have launched a billboard and commercial campaign in Republika Srpska and have a number (1414) residents of Bosnia can call to make a 1 KM donation.

Many people may be surprised to learn that despite several attempts, there is no Church in the area dedicated to the martyrs, many of whom were children, of the death camp. This is why 28. Jun and our partners will build the first Church in the Banja Luka diocese dedicated to victims of the Jasenovac concentration camp.

Please join us in honoring the martyrdom of Serbian men, women and children who perished on these grounds by supporting this important project.

Srbi za Srpske veterane: Najtuznija prica godine

Dragi prijatelji,

Molim vas hajde da zajedničkim snagama pomognemo Vojislavu i njegovoj porodici! Jer mi to možemo!

Dear Friends,

We hope you don’t mind us reaching out for your help for the very last time in 2022.

Father Perica, mother Snezana and son Vojislav from Prokuplje all live in one dark, inhumane room. To make things more tragic, Perica is a war veteran who fought for our country first in Croatia, then in Bosnia and finally in Kosovo. He returned home suffering from severe psychological problems which took a toll on his overall health. His wife Snezana is also seriously ill, suffering from brain and thyroid cancer. She has already had one operation and the second is scheduled. As their cursed fate would have it, 14-year-old son Vojislav too, has a serious health condition. He underwent surgery twice, first on his abdomen and a second time on his stomach.

After seeing everything there is to see in 11 years of humanitarian work, we were convinced that there is not a case which can still shock us. However, we have never seen the system fail a family like it failed the Stojanovic family. They survive on $120 which they receive every second month. Even though he is sick, Perica tries to do what he has done his whole life, which is protect others. This is why he takes side jobs for as little as $5 to support his family. Since their home burned down years ago, they have lived in one moldy room with no hot water, but with their income they are forced to skip meals and can’t even begin to dream of fixing their home.

Are we going to let this family welcome Christmas without a bathroom or hot water? Perica sacrificed his health protecting us, now we must protect him and his family. Our plan is to begin immediate renovation of their home so they can welcome Christmas with dignity and that we can give Vojislav some resemblance of a childhood. Can Perica and his family count on you? Please help now.

Thank You Serbia! Together We Moved Pavle into a New Home!

One of the biggest humanitarian cases in Serbian history has reached a successful conclusion right before the holidays. Little Pavle Dimitrijevic and his family have moved into their new home!

This past fall we introduced you to little Pavle and his three siblings from the village of Zdravinje near Kruševac. Pavle (3) suffers from a severe form of Aper’s Syndrome and needed urgent jaw reconstruction surgery and prostheses for his missing fingers. The conditions in which they previously lived were inhumane, to say the least. Their old house was cold, dilapidated, and on the brink of collapse. They had no water, bathroom, and absolutely no conditions for maintaining basic hygiene. We did not take it lightly when we said they lived in the worst conditions we have seen. SRPSKI

Serbs from around the world came together like never before to make all that a thing of the past! This weekend, with the welcome of their school friends, neighbors, and our volunteers, we moved the Dimitrijević family into their new dream home. We carefully selected the spacious, two-story house together with the family, which they insisted be in the village they are from. Immediately after all the paperwork was signed, renovations began so the family could be rushed in before the winter. Our teams worked day and night to make this happen in record time.

In addition to renovations of everything from the kitchen to the bathrooms, to the bedrooms and living room, we purchased all new appliances for the entire home. The children’s rooms were fitted with everything from their favorite toys to laptops. The fridge and pantry have been stocked with enough food, wood, and supplies to last them until the end of winter. In addition to the complete renovation of walls, floors, windows, and doors, to the equipping of the kitchen on the first floor and the kitchen on the ground floor, to the renovation of the bathroom, the complete furnishing of the bedrooms and living room and other rooms, we also purchased the appliances that were missing. The children’s rooms are fully furnished, from comfortable beds and favorite toys, and play areas, to study areas and laptop computers. Given that the family declined the offer to move into a temporary home while the renovations were in progress, our priority was for them to move to this house as soon as possible. More renovations and furniture are on the way!

The outpouring of support has been unprecedented in our organization’s history. Your donations were put to immediate use as we transferred funds to local organizations tending to Pavle one week after we launched. 28. Jun then fully took over and financed all transport and other costs for the family when Pavle was seeing specialists in Belgrade. We kept the public updated every step of the way on our social media. In addition, we donated to the children’s hospital where Pavle is being treated, and we will also direct the donations to the special needs school attended by his older brother and sister.

Finally, we have set up a fund that will cover all future costs associated with Pavle’s treatments including speech therapy, travel expenses, and additional financial support for his parents in raising their four children. Pavle has many more operations ahead of him and we will be there together with him every step of the way. We are grateful for all the support and with the blessing from the family, the remaining funds will be redirected to other disadvantaged and vulnerable families who are relying on our help.

Little Sofija is one of the 115,000 children in Serbia who live in absolute poverty.

For some of us, Christmas means presents we carefully choose or dream of for months, or happy moments shared with our loved ones. For those living from hand to mouth, Christmas days are like any other day in which they strive to escape poverty.

This is why we started our Christmas Project, six years ago, in Kosovo and Metohija. We are proud to say that our little Christmas venture has grown into our biggest and favorite project which draws in many volunteers from all over the world who simply have one wish…That every child enters the New Year with a smile on their face!

The cost-of-living increases are pushing families over the edge, into poverty, and at risk of homelessness. They desperately need support to put food on the table, keep the lights on and keep a roof over their heads. This year along with gifts for little kids we are also distributing food packages, urgent medical and financial support, as well as wood/heaters to the most vulnerable Serbian families.

Gifts will be delivered to vulnerable children and their families through schools, nurseries, hospitals, and orphanages everywhere where Serbian children live in our region. Give a Christmas gift to a child in need:

Pokloni će biti uručeni ugroženoj deci i porodicama preko njihovih škola, vrtića, bolnica i sirotišta, svuda gde žive srpska deca u našim krajevima.

What if we told you that the world’s worst criminals are housed in prisons with better conditions than the cold, dirty one-room “house” on the verge of collapse which young Vilomir Dragic shares with his parents? The pictures we are sharing with you were taken in Serbia in 2022. No one deserves to live like this.

In the town of Boljevac near Zaječar, a single room with a ceiling held up by planks of wood to prevent it from caving in, with no water or a bathroom, is where social services placed the Dragic family. Vilomir sitting silently on the corner of the bed is what our volunteers first saw when they entered their home. These pictures fail to capture the true depth of despair. Despite being only 240 km from Belgrade, it appears that Boljevac is part of another world. A world which has forgotten its own citizens and has led them into hopelessness.

Vilomir has been wheelchair bound since 2019 because his brain tumor was not operated on in time. He suffers from epilepsy and hydrocephalus, a condition in which fluid build-up in the cavities deep within the brain causes pressure which can lead to brain damage. Vilomir’s father, Milorad, takes on any jobs available but with rising food prices in Serbia, just staying above starvation is a challenge. Vilomir’s mother, Zdravka, has dedicated her life to caring for him but their dire circumstance has begun to take a toll on her health as well.

When asked what he wants for Christmas, Vilomir replied bashfully; “a new home”. The system has failed this family and they have no one to save them but us. This is the first family of our ‘Christmas action’, we need your support right now to put them in humane temporary housing while we build them a new home.

28. Jun Continues with Projects in Krajina

The most dire situation Serbs face in the Western Balkans is in Croatia. This is why in 2019 we launched the ‘Krajina Živi’ project to protect Serbian cultural heritage and offer humanitarian and economic assistance to Serbs living in Croatia.

Here are some of our results for Fall 2022:

∙ Awarded $20,000 CAD in ‘Nikola Tesla’ scholarships to students in Glina

∙ Bought a new kitchen for the Martić family in Knin

∙ Purchased a new roof for Boris Ćakić from Zečevo

Jasenovac Memorial Temple in Republika Srpska Reaches Important Milestone

Since last July, we have raised $100,000 CAD for the construction of the Church of the Jasenovac Holy Martyrs in Medjuvodje. Over 70% of these funds have already been spent on materials and labour. Phase two of the construction, the walls of the Church, is nearing completion. Phase three, the roof, is scheduled to begin in the Spring if we are able to secure the necessary funds.
