Urgent: Support the families of 8 miners killed in Soko coal mine!

An accident in Soko coal mine has killed eight miners and wounded 21 others.

The accident occurred at 4 a.m. on Friday when part of the mine collapsed, releasing the methane gas inside and suffocating the miners. Six of those killed are from Aleksinac, one from Vranje, one from Soko Banja. The youngest was only 31 years old and the oldest was 59. All of them left behind dependents; 18 children were made fatherless overnight.

The miners risk their lives for 500 Euros a month because it is twice the average wage in their region. We have confirmed information from workers at the mine that miners complained about the potential risk of methane poisoning for 10 days leading up to this horrific accident. The miners felt the ground shake, and the shift manager said the miners shouldn’t enter the part of the mine that collapsed. Their calls for help were ignored.

What is shocking and adds insult to this tragedy is that there is a full media black out of the story in Serbia because of the election on Sunday. A lot of Serbs only heard about the accident through social media and international media.

We are asking you today to donate to help us support the 18 children who woke up today asking for their fathers. These were working-class fathers, sons, and brothers. Risking their lives to support their families. The state media is ignoring their suffering, but we will not. We owe it to these men to be there for their children. Families left behind are grief-stricken and went without any clear explanation why their loved ones were sent to work to be suffocated.

Arsenijević family results! (This video made Serbia cry, first time little Sladjan saw a bathroom)

We did it!

Just over a month ago, we shared with you the heartbreaking story of the Arsenijević family from Krusevac. Živadinka is fighting terminal cancer while trying her best to leave her special needs boy, Sladjan, a warm home after she passes away. SRPSKI

With great joy, we want to share with you that TOGETHER, we made their dreams come true! We have moved the family into a warm, clean, fully furnished house until their permanent home is built! Their new home is closer to the hospital where Zivadinka receives cancer treatment and is closer to the special needs school Sladjan attends. To remove any worries for the family, we paid for all the utility bills in advance, stocked the fridge in their new home with food and sanitary supplies, purchased a brand new wardrobe and footwear for each family member and hired a carer to help Zivadinka as she bravely battles cancer. WATCH VIDEO

We are fully committed to helping this family over the long haul, even before the move our volunteers visited the family weekly bringing medicine, food, clothes and sanitary supplies. We are also making a commitment to their community and to the city of Krusevac. Sladjan, being the generous boy that he is, wanted to share his new found joy, so we donated a dozen huge boxes of sweets and toys to his special needs school on his behalf! In addition, we donated a van-full of toys, school supplies, board games, maternity kits and clothes to the Krusevac Red Cross so they can assist more families just like this one!

Friends, most importantly, we showed this family, this community, this city, that they are loved! We showed them they are not forgotten and when one of us gets down, Serbs from all over the world come together to help. Thank you all for your support!.

Humanitarian organization 28. Jun marks International Women’s Day with donation to maternity wards

Donation of love to maternity wards

To mark International Women’s Day, humanitarian organization 28. Jun made a sizable donation to maternity wards in Kraljevo and Leskovac which included thousands of specialized medical-grade baby outfits, sleeping gowns for new mothers, complete linen sets for maternity beds and cloth diapers. With this delivery 28. Jun returned to Serbia’s impoverished south and completed a $900,000 project to upgrade Serbia’s hospitals which began with the delivery of an 8-ton container to Clinical Center Nis at the start of the pandemic.

28. Jun Women Director Jelena Obrenovic stated: “To mark our 10th anniversary year, we carefully planned a project which is extremely important to everyone, not just women — the ‘Donacija Ljubavi’ project. With this initiative, we want to draw attention to one of life’s most beautiful moments: when a baby is born and when a woman becomes a mother. Aware of the difficult conditions in maternity wards throughout Serbia, we aim to improve the quality of service during the stay of mothers and newborns in the most neglected hospitals.”

28. Jun’s program manager Milana Vasic added: “We believe this project to be just the beginning of a larger, awareness-raising movement, which will lead to more security and respect for mothers and their babies. During the month of March, which overlaps International Women’s Day, we seek both public and corporate donations to realize our shared goal of improving Serbia’s maternity wards. ’28. Jun Women’ was formed several years ago as a special division of the international humanitarian organization, 28. Jun, with the goal of empowering women in the Western Balkans. 28. Jun is the first humanitarian organization from the region to be granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations in 2018. Founded in 2012, to date the charity has delivered 235 tons of humanitarian, medical and disaster relief aid worth over $9.7 million to the Western Balkans.

28. Jun awards 5 scholarships!

As many schools and churches celebrated their patron saint – St. Sava, the founder of Serbian schools and education, our organization granted university scholarships to five students with exemplary academic accomplishments. Students received $640 each to help them with costs associated with school. 28. Jun has awarded hundreds of scholarships to primary and secondary students and we are thrilled to include university students this year!

2021 Review: This year’s theme was the number 10

In 2021, every single month of the year set the record for donations! As we entered our 10th year, you have shown us that we have earned your trust. Now we want to show you how your trust in our work, and your generosity, helped those most in need.

During the Holidays, we distributed thousands of gifts to children in 10 locations throughout Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. We helped 10 of the most desperate families in the region with shelter, food, electricity, medicine and provided means to earn a sustainable living. We donated to 10 causes which focus on feeding the hungry, educating and caring for children, fighting diseases and improving healthcare and strengthening and promoting our cultural heritage abroad. And lastly, we launched the first of 10 special projects, an initiative to encourage compassion for animals while reminding people to recycle.

In 2021, we distributed over $1 million worth of humanitarian aid. We assisted hundreds of needy families in the Western Balkans through our ongoing ‘Help Serbian Families’ project. We delivered 5 tons of disaster relief aid to Glina, after the earthquake, and to Pirot, after the floods. We donated equipment for children with cerebral palsy in Banja Luka. We continued to support Serbs in Krajina, highlighted by a trip to Belgrade and awarding of scholarships to Krajina children in partnership with Patriarch Porfirije. And finally, after a two-year hiatus we returned to the United Nations to fight for the interests of our people.

With a blazing finish to 2021, after 10 years, we have donated $9.7 million worth of humanitarian, medical and disaster relief to the Western Balkan region. Thank you kindly from all of us at your 28. Jun family, together, we have done it again!

28. Jun donates another “Smart Recycling Box” that feed stray dogs to Banja Luka

We donated another vending machine that feeds stray dogs and encourages recycling to the city of Banja Luka. Mayor Drasko Stanivukovic humbled us with his hospitality, and was kind enough to open the first machine of its kind in Bosnia & Hercegovina, with us.

The “Smart Recycling Boxes” are essentially vending machines that dispense dog food and water in exchange for recycled plastic bottles. The bottles are placed into slots at the top of the machine, while food and water is dispensed out of the bottom, making it accessible to stray dogs. ⁣

The machines are approximately the size of an ATM and utilize natural energy with the aid of solar panels installed on its top. The machines also contain technology that can provide analytics on usage, as well as monitor levels of food, water and waste. ⁣

The vending machines aim to give strays a better life and reduce their hardship on the streets, while also encouraging its users to adopt a healthy recycling habit. The machines operate at no charge to the city, and the recycled bottles cover the cost of the food.⁣

We donated the first community fridge in Serbia to help feed the hungry!

The initiative was the first of its kind in the country and organized by Zajednički Frižider with support from WWF Adria. It is located at Dorćol Platz in Belgrade and we hope it helps spread compassion for the needy during these hard times.⁣

There are a lot of people in Serbia with nothing to eat. This was highlighted recently when famed actress Vesna Pećanac was spotted at a community kitchen in Belgrade. The country is experiencing gross inequality and people who have fallen on hard times should not be ashamed. The only ones who should be ashamed are those who are hoarding resources and doing nothing to help others during this time of need.

28. Jun will continue to feed the hungry this winter. Please support us.

28. Jun donates “Smart Recycling Boxes” that feed stray dogs to Belgrade

Humanitarian organization 28. Jun today donated to the Stari Grad municipality in Belgrade two vending machines that feed stray dogs and encourage recycling.

The “Smart Recycling Boxes” are essentially vending machines that dispense dog food and water in exchange for recycled plastic bottles. The bottles are placed into slots at the top of the machine, while food and water is dispensed out of the bottom, making it accessible to stray dogs. By using the funds from the recycled bottles to purchase food for the animals, people are encouraged to recycle.

The machines are approximately the size of an ATM and utilize natural energy with the aid of solar panels installed on its top. The machines also contain technology that can provide analytics on usage, as well as monitor levels of food, water and waste. It even talks, thanking users in Serbian and English and reciting trivia about the Stari Grad municipality.

The vending machines aim to give strays a better life and reduce their hardship on the streets, while also encouraging its users to adopt a healthy recycling habit. The machines operate at no charge to the city, and the recycled bottles cover the cost of the food.

28. Jun has committed $110,000 for 10 special projects to mark their 10-year anniversary, this project being the first. Founded in 2012, 28. Jun has grown into a world-class humanitarian organization— attaining Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations— and delivering 235 tons of humanitarian, medical and disaster relief aid worth $9.7 million to the Western Balkans

Stari Grad encompasses some of the oldest sections of urban Belgrade, Serbia’s capital. According to government estimates, strays have doubled in recent years to about 15,000 — a huge burden for a city of only 2 million.
