Urgent Earthquake Relief for Serbs in Krajina

28. Jun will join earthquake relief efforts in Croatia with a focus on assisting the Serbian minority in the affected area. Our two phase response will begin with a lightning-quick action to distribute urgent humanitarian relief in the field to those hardest hit. Our second phase will draw on the experience of our sustainable development project in Croatia — ‘Krajina Zivi’ — which has been providing economic stimulus to the Serbian community for the past two years through rebuilding houses, academic scholarships and donations of tools, livestock and farming equipment.

28. Jun has vast experience with disaster response having led the global effort during the 2014 Southeast Europe floods. We maintained the logistical infrastructure to acquire, store and transport material donations worth over $1.3 million. We also airlifted 30,000 lbs of urgent humanitarian relief – the largest non-state donation during the natural disaster. Since 2012 we have delivered 216 tons of humanitarian aid worth $8.5 million to the region. Most recently, we donated over 100,000 protective equipment items worth $1 million to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

Christmas 2020

Jelena and Marko are two of the 115,000 children in Serbia who live in absolute poverty. For them, the Christmas Holidays are not about presents but about survival.

While some of us have managed to weather the COVID-19 pandemic better than others, this year has seen more children plunged into extreme poverty than ever before.

Poverty and hunger do not disappear during the Holidays — For children with disabilities, for children living in orphanages and for children growing up in enclaves of Kosovo and Metohija, 2020 has magnified their already dire situations.

These kids do not have food to eat, winter clothes to keep them warm, a bed to sleep on and a roof over their heads to keep them safe. Along with gifts, we want to provide them with much needed food and supplies to make their Christmas Season a little warmer.

For the 4th year running, we are making these children and their families our priority. However, we can’t do this without you, the children are counting on your support now more than ever.

Record-breaking Autumn for ’28. Jun’

Thanks to your support our organization has had the busiest Autumn on record! While other humanitarian organizations struggle to survive due to the pandemic, your trust in us has enabled us to help thousands of people in need.

We donated several tons of aid to women’s shelters in Sombor, Pancevo and Zrenjanin to mark a massive launch to our Women’s Project. We’ve also continued to support vets and their families with our ‘Srbi Za Srpske Veterane’ Project. Here is a quick look at what else we accomplished:

NIKOLA TESLA SCHOLARSHIPS – YEAR TWO

Throughout the year, we receive a large number of requests from parents who are looking for the most basic school supplies (notebooks, pens, backpacks), and that number increases drastically in September, at the beginning of the school year.⁣

We are pleased to inform you that once again our organization provided ’28. Jun Nikola Tesla’ scholarships in the form of school work materials for Serbian children in the Knin municipality of Kistanje in Krajina. This is our second year of providing 30 plus scholarships for this region!

NEW SPORTS COURT IN KRAJINA

‣ At a time when the whole world was fighting the peak of the vicious Covid-19 virus, a group of young and determined people found themselves in the village of Đevrske near Knin with the desire to build a tennis court and enable the youngest members of their community to have a sports court.

‣ We helped by painting the court, buying a net for the tennis court, while providing sports equipment in the form of tennis rackets, footballs, basketballs and volleyballs.

‣ Sport is what makes our nation the most recognizable in the world, and we hope that one of these kids will one day follow in the footsteps of our famous sports greats!

HELP SERBIAN FAMILIES 2020 – NOV

‣ In Republika Srpska, we helped the Makaric family by buying books for their 3 kids, as well as clothes, groceries and hygiene products. And most importantly, we bought them wood so they would be warm this winter!

‣ In Banija, we met Djordje Nisevic who is disabled from a serious car accident. We managed to buy him a wheelchair and additional medical supplies which will make his and his parents’ everyday life easier!

‣ In Metohija, our friends ‘Kosovsko Primorje’ asked us to assist in their campaign to help the elderly in the province. We responded by donating a new heater for Baka Marija so she can stay warm as the weather gets colder!

COMPUTER DELIVERY TO STUDENTS IN HERCEGOVINA

A few months ago our DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) team began the campaign for the “Petar II Petrović Njegoš” primary school in the small town of Bileća. Our goal was to enable the students to have access to modern online learning. We would now like to proudly present the end result of our project; happy and grateful students who can hardly wait to make use of the new computers! Thank you to all those who supported us!

As long as we have you to count on, these families have a fighting chance!

Covid-19 Donation Concludes 8-year Humanitarian Project

28. Jun has proudly supported Clinical Center Nis by donating 8 tonnes of medical aid during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The organization collaborated with Director Zoran Radovanovic, who expressed his immense gratitude on behalf of all staff and patients at the center and for the donation as well as previous support to Serbian health institutions since the organization’s inception in 2012.

The contents of the container were valued at 553,389.44 Euros ($855,692.89 CAD) by the Nis region Ministry of Finance customs division, and consisted of anesthesia machines, portable X-ray units, ultrasound machines, EKG/ECG machines and several tonnes of medical supplies. The support also included over 100,000 protective equipment items such as N95 respirator masks, gowns, gloves and eye protective goggles, to support staff throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in Serbia.

28. Jun President and Founder Filip Filipi added “I am immensely proud of the dedication shown by our donors and Snezana Dimitrijevic, Sava Vojnovic and Maria Grubor, who spent over a year clearing this much needed help. This donation concluded an eight-year project in which we delivered over 200 tonnes of aid worth over $8 million to Serbia. I thank you all for your support and hope that, in the coming weeks, we will take a unified stand in our efforts to combat COVID-19, continuing to protect our country and our people.”

Hitmaker Humanitarian Hopes to Transform Basketball Court into Sustainable Technicolor Oasis

AKRON, Ohio— As a teen, Filip Filipi used a burgeoning music career to jumpstart philanthropic projects that would lead him all the way to United Nations summits where he would repeatedly speak on behalf of vulnerable populations. Today, he returns to music, bonding beats with goodwill to transform a suburban basketball court into a technicolor oasis of sustainability that promotes sport and health for local youth.

The project was born out of a wish to memorialize the influence of friend and former manager, Zoran Djakovic, who had a profound impact on Filipi and many of his early philanthropic endeavors. Djakovic, an ardent lover of basketball, grew up in nearby Parma, and cared deeply about the wellbeing of his community, especially the youth. He believed that sport could promote kindness toward others, as well as toward our natural world. The court was designed to keep this legacy alive.

If we build it, the youth will come.

Situated in suburban Akron, the court is designed to utilize sustainable materials that bring forth vibrant and symbolic imagery tying sport and art. The construction utilizes Nike Grind Premier Surface Court materials, which aim to maximize performance while reducing negative environmental impact. Surrounding the court are Strawberry Energy Smart Solar Benches, and all of the vibrant artwork on the court is created with eco-friendly paint.

The artwork symbolizes Filipi and Djakovic’s shared heritage, with a nod to both Orthodox Christian motifs, as well as elements epitomizing the Balkan post-war era in a media frame, to whose manipulation people, especially young people, are often subject. Basketball embodied the idea of hope for Balkan youth in a time of social upheaval, similar to what many are experiencing in North America today.

The design also alludes to Filipi’s passion for music and the direction and connections it afforded him. To bring the court project to fruition, Filipi returned to his musical roots, releasing a CD entitled Nine Roses, produced by Canadian artist YEAROFTHELEE. The CD, which is out now on all digital platforms, consists of 10 songs, including Kosovka, which features Gucci Mane on its intro. A video for the song, featuring Sports Illustrated model Bo Krsmanovic, was conceptualized with ethnic symbolism that played a role in Filipi’s own upbringing as a young immigrant seeking direction in a newfound home by dabbling in art and sport.

To accompany the album, Filipi is releasing a limited edition of branded merchandise through his new socially-conscious enterprise Maison Filipi. All proceeds from streaming and sale of physical copies of the CD and merchandise will go toward covering construction costs of the basketball court.

For years, the connection between music and sport provided a young Filipi with an outlet through which he could effectively process enormous social changes occurring around him. His friendship with Djakovic helped him channel that passion into kindness for others, out of which Filipi’s decade-long career in philanthropy emerged. Most recently, it was marked by a large drive that resulted in the donation of $1 million of medical aid and PPE to Serbia during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, as an adult experienced in collaborating with some of the leading musicians and statesmen in the world, he hopes to be able to give back in a meaningful way.

Once constructed, the basketball court will be open to all youth in the Akron region, regardless of background, race or struggle, hopefully serving as a source of connection, and inspiration.

If we build it, the youth will come.

Medical aid donated during COVID-19 pandemic

28. Jun is proud to inform you that a donation of medical aid sent to Serbia through our fundraising and volunteer efforts was used by the Serbian government during the crisis response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our team is grateful for the cooperation of all agencies and personnel involved in this effort. We are incredibly happy to have had the opportunity to contribute to the greater response to this crisis and, in doing so, have had the chance to give back to the Serbian community in this time of need.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our American partner ‘Supplies Over Seas’, without whom this delivery would not have been possible. We hope that this cooperation will set a precedent for future collaboration.
